Default TravelSim & CBW - Do They Play Nice? - 19-08-2007, 18:20

Okay, just starting to use the TravelSim card. Right off the bat, doesn't work with CBW. I've been using CBW with the UM card for some years, so I know it works and I know how to use it. However I never noticed the different settings in CBW under Account Details (Ringback, Conference, DTMF Extension, and Prompt Extension). Anyone tell me what these mean and how they should be configured for TravelSim? Thanks!

Do not change anything there besides the number you receive the callback.

Phooey, then CBW isn't working with TravelSim, at least not in Luxembourg. Hope it works down the road (Netherlands, UAE, etc.)

I also had problems with receiving callback on an Estonian sim and Barry (from CBW) suggested that this is an issue with the sim and not with them. At present stage I do not consider CBW as the best option with a travelsim card.

Well I just got back from a week in London and did check out my Estonian sim card (Air Baltic Card) and it worked pretty well with enlinea which is surprising as enlinea and cbw should work pretty much the same! (Not that I really needed it...with t mobile UK I can now get 3p/minute calls to the USA and the enlinea rate to Estonian mobiles is listed at 28¢/minute.....

I also think it would be prudent to change the setting on cbw to a busy signal rather than a ring signal...I had some problems with my O9 credit being drained during July with the ringing tone used by cbw as if you do not hang up promptly enough (and even if you do there is a delayh) the call is answered for an instant asking for a pin number...it is part of the system they have allowing use of "toll free" numbers in certain European countries....I discovered this was the problem once my O9 credit was drained and I had to use a different mobile to trigger the callback...voila after ringing twice the phone was answered with a quick request for a pin and yes indeed I was charged for a one minute call to the USA....I know the suggestion is not to change the settings but I think a busy signal is safer!

Might not be a bad idea. But for those thinking of switching to TravelSim... so far I like all the features, although I'm very surprised it doesn't work on my phone and I have to go through the TravelSim menu (I'm using a Vodofone V1640).

But CBW simply doesn't work with TravelSim. I've tried changing carriers here in Luxembourg with the same results. A few times I get a ringback, but it either rings a couple of times and quits or I will get part of the operator and as I enter my number, it hangs up. I'm trying to get signed up with Enlinea but I guess they need some time to get my account activated and get the info back to me.

Here's hoping the UM+ card will work better!

Just got an email from CBW...

"We have been experiencing ongoing problems with our Estonia
mobile route. The only solution requires a rate change that would
make using that route too expensive to make sense. It's a dilemma
we have yet to resolve. All the other global sim card destinations are
working well. I'm sorry you are having this problem but we are
unable to improve things at this time. The service works some days
and others not.

Sounds a bit like what happened with them and the UM card. Oh well, maybe Enlinea will work better, at least according to everything I've read here.

Barry of cbw has always been great and treated me and all of us using the service very well and it is very very hard to say negative things about him and I won't go that route.

However indeed it is shall we say strange that enlinea worked very well last week in the UK with my Estonian sim (I was basically just testing it as I noted elsewhere) although the price is 27¢/minute as opposed to 21¢/minute on cbw....are they using a different routing?

Also as we know, the value of +423 was destroyed by the rise in rates, UK rates are very high too as compared to French and German on both cbw and enlinea making them poor alternatives for the isle of man and the new jersey sims...leaving only O9 Iceland which was used by my friend really well a couple of weeks ago in Croatia, Greece and Italy.....

Are we at the end of cheap international calls on these international cards? I really hope not.
