Default Cosmote prepaid GPRS - 24-08-2008, 11:12

Hi all,

I go over to Rhodes a few times a year as we have a summer home over there.

I will be there in October this year. Where the house is located I am sure the network is poor for the Wind network

I have seen on another post about Cosmote prepaid GPRS post below

You can activate the my view portal by sending an sms with the word "WAP" to 1333 and you'll receive the settings. Then you can activate the monthly pass (4 Euro/40 MB web surfing) through the main site of "Cosmote My view" or at a Cosmote shop.

If anyone who lives in Greece knows whether you can use this GPRS my view service for internet use instead of wap use. I want to use my phone and plug in to my laptop as a modem as a back up in case Wind doesn’t work.

I read that it might just be a case of changing the APN from wap to internet.

I hope Wind works as its cheaper but just in case

Please help

Regards

David.

DO NOT change the APN from "wap" to "internet"!

You can use the monthly pass for 40MB internet surfing but only through the "wap" APN!!!

The first time you activate a monthly "my view 'n' web pass", if you do it at a Cosmote store, they'll give you a 50% discount for the first month...

But that's all, 40 MB... I think I mentioned the per KB rate after that on the other thread... Enjoy!

Thank you for your help i will pick up a cosmote sim card when I get to Rhodes in October.

Hopefully I can use Wind though on there Prepaid ADSM tariff plans if I can get a signal.

If not 40 meg is better than nothing.

I'm going to Rhodes on Thursday for an extended weekend.

I'll let you know about Wind 3G coverage but frankly I'm sure there will be 3G coverage at least in the City of Rhodes and maybe the airport...

Take a look at Wind Plus non-stop. It runs through a proxy that blocks email and streaming but allows unlimited browsing but no file download that exceeds 1MB... This means that for surfing it's a great deal and you get a full 3G speed if you have the coverage... I suppose you've considered that already but you need the ADSM programs for something more than browsing!
