It's a misprint for the 7 ie +447624

no such prefix as 0962; 09s are either 090xx or 0911x

I also believe that this is mistake. Looks like their webpages don't work properly anyway.

OK, but I don't quite trust the website you are referring to .
For 0 7624 it returned:

Code: 076 241
Type: Mobile
Use: Paging Manx Telecom
Operator: Manx Telecom
Tariff Band: O2, BT Cellnet Mobile (fm1) (inc VAT)
Service: Paging

I realise that thanks to this information we can enjoy a landline rate from SkypeOut to Callkey-based SIMs but reliability of www.magsys.co.uk is doubtful to me anyway

I don't see why, but try this one which has the same correct information

Paging & Mobile Services
Operator: Manx Telecom

http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/section/tci/locator.shtml

But I was mainly putting that there to look up non-existent 0962 codes

Hmmm, "Service: Paging" means to me that there +44 7624 numbers are used by pagers ONLY, not by mobile/landline phones. That's why I was skeptical about reliability of the info .

And, even if +44 9624 existed and were a premium rate prefix (as numberingplans.com suggested) I suppose that it wouldn't be a good idea to use it aa a prefix for an international SIM

If you take a look closer to following table http://www.ukphoneinfo.com/search/Phones/o...s7_code_76.html . Prefix 07624 is only one, which have dual use eg. Paging & Mobile Services. All remaing are use for Paging Services only. And I believe this is the reason, why Skype considers prefix 07624 as used for Paging Services only and charges calls to this prefix in national rate for UK.

OK, I understand now. Do Manx pagers still exist ?

And as to Globalsim.net - it seems it works now (but only in German) . It looks that they "moved" their SIM offer from UM to Callkey ones.
However, they still sell top-ups for +423 663, not SIMs themselves...

When phones were renumbered a few years back, 7 was introduced as a prefix for mobiles, but only 077, 078, 079. Pagers moved into 076.

The code for the Isle of Man was 0624, including landlines and mobiles, but these were then split to 01624 and 07624. Guernsey was similar; 0481 became 01481 and 07781. Presumably the out-of-group 76 prefix wasn't seen as much of a problem.
