I'n new to this forum and pleased to see this discussion.

I live in Canada. I use a T-Mobile UK prepaid sim card in Europe, but I have trouble topping it up, since T-Mobile UK won't accept payment via foreign credit cards.

If I am going to the UK, of course no problem. If I am going to Europe, then it's been difficult. I think some of you have said that one can go to a T-Mobile outlet on continent (or at least in Germany) and top-up a UK card. If that's true, then I'm in good shape for my next trip. If not, then should I look to buy a card on e-Bay? Are there other reliable outlets?

inquisitor (who else...) posted a link not a long time ago with a site that seems to offer top-ups for LESS than their nominal value!

Cheap Mobile Phone Top Up

Maybe somebody can try it (usual disclaimer applies: don't know anything about this site but I would and will try it probably eventually if needed)?

I should once again mention that PayPal is sometimes an option to top up mobile phones. If, however, it is only possible to use a PayPal account from that country, that's still not a problem - just create one (give the address of a hotel, friend, etc.), and then pay into it from your existing PayPal account (remember to include a little bit more to cover PayPal fees), and then use the new PayPal account to pay for the top-up.

WARNING! I know you are absolutely perfectly well intended but this might be shockingly bad advice and can very easily make you lose access to your money! It depends mostly on what country you use for the destination paypal account but for example for US (and surely for other) here is what happens: you send very happily the money and then you can do nothing with them!!! The default "sending limit" is ZERO and you can lift it ONLY by adding a (local) bank account!!! You can't send money anywhere, you can't buy anything with them, anything you sent to the destination foreign account is just stuck forever!

Yes, I should have qualified that. It worked fine for me in Italy, and - if nothing else works - it's worth a try with a small amount of money first (that you can live without) to see if it works. But some places do require a local account or similar - AFAIK, PayPal does tell you that the account is not able to send money, though. Caveat emptor.
