Default Changes at Ekit: simswap and cheaper data - 05-10-2011, 13:40

Just received an e-mail about changes at my Ekit Home and Roam SIM:
Quote:
Upgrade of Your International Mobile Service
We would like to offer you a complimentary upgrade of your International
Mobile Service and an extra USD $5 bonus call credit.

The upgraded service has a number of benefits compared to your existing
service:
Increased coverage of over 20 countries
o Decreased prepaid data rates for many countries
o Improved usability in Smartphones (if you use the service currently in a
Smartphone)
o USD $5 bonus call credit.

If you accept the offer, we will send you in the post, a new SIM card with the
upgraded service. When you receive your new SIM card, you will have to remove
your existing International SIM Card from the phone you use it in, and replace
it with the new SIM card.

Your existing call credit and all your settings will be transferred from your
existing SIM card to the new SIM card, including your US number if you have
elected to pay the monthly fee for it. You will receive a new Global number
(your existing Global number and also your local UK number - if you have one
- cannot be transferred).

To accept this offer, go to Recharge Minutes and
enter your phone number and PIN. Click on the top left on 'My Account' and
'My Account Details'. Ensure your delivery address details are correct, and
then click on the button "Upgrade Service". You will receive your new
International SIM card in the post in 3 to 7 days.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us or call 24/7
Customer Service.

Happy travelling
The ekit Team

Can anyone find anything on this new plan? What country is the SIM out of? Where are the new rates? Are you a particularly heavy eKit user. I have an eKit SIM. I am not a heavy user, but have a call or two on it every month and was never sent the offer.

I actually first saw this on their facebook page about a month ago or so. I did not receive an email either. Not sure which of the ekit sims it applies to.

As far as i understand this applies to the "Ekit Home and Roam SIM" which is no longer offered. I think they try to migrate customers to their current products.

Default First impression - 09-10-2011, 16:09

Received the new SIM yesterday:
- it is a Home and Roam 'Blue', account is in GBP instead of USD.
- the Global number starts with +44 7937 (UK-Jersey) instead of UK-Isle of Man
- i found the new rates here, the old ones are these.
- Credit was moved to the new SIM, with an extra 5 GBP for the trouble.
- Old SIM is still working.

I hadn't seen that one before, but they also a few months ago launched a SIM which has an O2 UK number, an Isle of Man number, and a US number, and cheaper international rates from UK, from a few pence a minute (plus connection charge)

I think that is the UK SIMple Calling Plus Service. There is also a SIM called UK & Global Travel Service with Jersey and US number.

Default Second impression... - 11-10-2011, 14:49

Update: a new IOM (Isle of Man) number seems to be connected to my new SIM. I tested this number and it works on the new SIM alongside the Jersey and US number.
Quote:
Account status
Product Home and Roam SIM
Global Number 447924******
Global Number 447937******
US Number 1**********
So there is absolut no problem for me to be reached by phone. 3 numbers on my new SIM and still 2 numbers on my old SIM.
