Default Tuyo is doomed? - 24-04-2012, 07:19

Today I received the following text messages and the same was on the website:
Quote:
We've been notified by our provider that TuYo service will be
discontinued shortly. We will notify you as updates become
available. If service is discontinued we will refund your
remaining balance. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may
cause. Our customer service # is 1-877-438-8896.
As voice balance is still available at #225, I suggest you call it and write it down so you have a number to your balance in case there are issues.

Tuyo has been doomed for a while. They have stopped taking new customers for at least a year. So, this should not be a surprise.

Phones: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Samsung Galaxy A50, ASUS zenfone 3,
Sim cards: AT&T (Contract), 3 UK, Piranha Mobile

Understood and I agree. Still I will miss them and grieve their loss.

Yeah. I have used them in the past as well. They have very good international rates. I also like their online account management.

Default Today, I have started a port........ - 25-04-2012, 04:18

Here is a text message I received this evening:
Quote:
ALERT: TuYo service will be shut down by April 30, 2012.
please port your phone number to a different provider as soon as possible or you risk losing your service and phone number. TuYo will refund your remaining balance. Please call customer service at 1-877-438-8896 if you need assistance.
I also was able to call TuYo CS after the text and they said YES, you will get a refund if you port. The CS rep said after you port sucessfully, call TuYo's CS and request the refund. Part of the reason I called was to make sure they have a correct address for me. [TO MAIL A CHECK TO.] I will call T-Mobile right now to see if I can get the port started tonight.
{I forgot to add that it will take 4-6 weeks for the check to arrive.}

I have now started the port at 8pm PT.

It took about 13 hours.
This morning, at 11:15AM I started my TuYo phone and it said: "SIM card reqistration failed."
I started my T-Mobile phone and received a: "Welcome to T-Mobile!" message with my new phone number.
The time on the message was 8:46AM.

Things I will miss about Tuyo:

1. Low international rates.

2. Ability to use balance as 'phone card.' [Red Pocket had this at one time.]

3. Interesting offers for all sorts of Latin American Holidays.

4. The online account management was nice.

5. They had a thing where people could call you using a local phone number in some Latin American countries.

6. They also had an offer of free calls to 'your country' for about $5 a month.

I never really used 1 & 2 much, but it was nice to have available
if I wanted to test an international SIM's international phone number. [Even Lichtenstein!] Never used 5 & 6.

Default I have received my refund. - 07-05-2012, 19:15

Today I noticed that I have received my refund from TuYo. It was for the remaining balance left after I ported the number to T-Mobile.
It was to my credit card. The transaction date and the posted date are 05/04/12. It was less than $60.

I have never had a better experience in this kind of thing.

All the more reason to be sad at TuYo's demise.
