SIP protocol on 3UK

I read that SIP will work on mobile uk networks, but depends on what network you're with and 3 doesn't allow it. Is it true?

As you can see by the slow response, I don't know much about this, but 3 is definitely more restrictive of even what wap sites you can view - I've not managed anything except its own site, which has links to paid services

Most of the SIP arrangements I've read about are using other modes like wi-fi, for example using the Nokia E-series or a PDA, but it is said to be possible over 3g.

3 recently launched a deal with Skype, included in a new package called X-series, which isn't promising for the prospects of SIP use
