Default Ekit swapping/replacing SIMple Calling PLUS SIM cards - 28-02-2013, 19:49

I received an email from ekit saying:

Quote:
Dear customer

You are currently subscribed to one of our older International mobile services.

Due to an unavoidable increase in local partner network costs, we are having to increase some of our calling and text rates on this service.

The following rate changes will apply from 6th March 2013:

Making and receiving calls in the USA & Canada will increase by 6c/minute.
Sending and receiving text messages in the USA & Canada will also increase by 9c/text message.
Sending a text message from zone 1a - 4 will increase to 89c/text message.
Please note the rate to receive a call on the +44 Global number remains unaffected.

Complimentary upgrade - Avoid the price increases

As a valued customer we would like to provide the opportunity to avoid these price increases by offering you a complimentary upgrade to a new version of the Service, which has better rates as well as the same excellent features and coverage.

Any questions?

If you have any questions please email us at shout@ekit.com

The Global Roaming Team
When you click on 'upgrade' at bottom of 'details' page you will see:

Quote:
Click on the upgrade service button to have a new sim card with upgraded service sent to you in the mail. The upgraded service has a number of features:

Increased coverage,
improved data rates
an additional $5 of bonus call credit.
Your existing call credit and all your settings will be transferred from your existing sim card to the new sim card, including your US number if you have elected to pay the monthly fee for it.

You will receive a new global number (your existing global number and also your local UK number - if you have one - cannot be transferred). When you receive your new sim card you will have to remove the existing one from the phone and insert the new sim card into your phone.

Please review your details below. If they're not correct click cancel, edit and save them and then click upgrade service again.:

After clicking on 'upgrade' again it says:

Your new Sim card will be sent within the next few business days.

This is a 'heads up' for those with these cards.

I also received an email referring to my really old US only SIMple Calling Plus SIM that will upgrade me to the current SIMple calling product rather than the Passport product above.

I did not receive this email, however the "upgrade Sim" button is there under "recharge minutes" when I login. I have the simple calling sim.

Phones: Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Samsung Galaxy A50, ASUS zenfone 3,
Sim cards: AT&T (Contract), 3 UK, Piranha Mobile

I did not receive the email for one of my SIMs that shows upgrade is possible. it was a SIM I got from the UK ekit seller that charged 25cents for a minute in the US. I do not currently plan to update this SIM because of the lower rate. Ekit claims the non-upgraded SIM will continue to work and they have no plans to turn them off. We will see.

I got the email, hit the button, had new SIM within 2 days. You have to get new numbers. Balance was moved instantly so no working SIM until the new one arrived. It included an extra $5 plus the $5 facebook/journal bonus.

Yeah, I checked the balances today and they were $0.00.
Wish I had written them down to be safe.

On the up grade page it says:

I wonder if this will really work.I have one SIM I won't upgrade if I can not keep the US number--it does not have a UK number [really old].

And I do not do facebook. Glad to see you got the $5 OK.
