Default Dell XPS M1210 - Capable SIM Data Card - 17-08-2008, 08:46

Hello Everyone,

Just looking for some answers and hoping to get some insight.

1. Is the XPS M1210 Locked to Cingular? If so is there a simple unlock process for the Radio?

2. If it is unlocked then can I use just any SIM with a Data plan to allow the XPS access to Wireless Data Networks?

3. Can I share a SIM between a GSM Phone and the XPS M1210 if I have an unlimited Data Plan on that SIM?

4. Would it be best to have separate Data SIM for the M1210?

Scenario. Use in the United States initially. Once it is functional US, then Look into getting it functional World Wide and specifically China GSM.

Thank you in Advance for any insight that I can gain in this arena.

Cary

I want to know too. If you read the article it sounds like the cards are locked or at least branded to the particular service as one goes Cingular and the other goes Verizon. Of course one is EDGE and the other is 3G CDMA.

Wide Area Network / Cell Communication Options
  • Dell Wireless 5700 Mobile Broadband (CDMA EVDO) Mini-Card for Verizon Wireless service
  • Dell Wireless 5500 Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) Mini-Card for Cingular service
I do not like trying to do things when I can know they are possible before doing it. I like finding out most variables BEFORE I tear into it.

Not yet. Checked here first to see if there was someone that had walked where I am about to walk and see what there is to see before recreating the wheel...
