Looking somewhat briefly today, California area codes 213, 323 and 858 were available on the Tru website.

Having handfuls of Tru SIMs, I decided today that I was going to see how activating using the SIM in a phone and dialing 808 would work. It did not. However, when I called CS and she said if 808 had worked it would have forwarded to CS. So I went and activated the SIM online instead.

Tru business SIM accounts already have AT&T network capability... it was the personal use Tru SIM that was limited to T-Mobile. Great news!

What is the expiration on Truphone SIMs? My best friend is moving to OZ and I'm thinking it might be a good solution for visits there.

AFAIK, they charge you 3$/£/€ on your balance after 3 months of inactivity, and then a top-up or a call shoud re-activate the sim. But I'm not sure.

I've had a SIM since the launch offer. I sent a text message a while ago, but not sure exactly when, and I sent another this morning. It had occasional incoming calls last year, nothing much, just when I got it out and called it.

The balance is still £4.84 i.e. the initial £5 less 2 text messages.

So it should be safe to assume it will last a while. I'm not sure about that low use fixed charge, but it hasn't been applied to mine yet.

there was a recent discussion about this on the truphone forum, and their terms of service are actually $3 fee every 30 days with no activity, and after 180 days they cancel the number.
but activity can be a free call to customer service or check balance.
apparently they are reviewing the policy after a lot of complaints, many of us only use the sim for travel a few times a year.

At one time, the no activity fee kicked in after 90 or 120 days [search for posts on this forum]. Now it seems if one reads carefully it seems to be after 30 days with no credit balance. It is really not clear in their terms and they have not responded or clearly responded to the question yet.
