TIM kicks off international prepaid roaming

Brazil's second largest mobile operator TIM has launched the first of nine expected international roaming agreements for its prepaid users, a TIM spokesperson confirmed.

"We expect [the next] agreement in 2-3 weeks," the spokesperson told BNamericas.

TIM would not name the countries, but said it aims to have tie-ups in countries where its customers travel the most.

Ahead of the soccer world cup, TIM has signed a prepaid international roaming agreement for its users in Germany.

The offer is aimed at residential and corporate clients alike, the company said in a statement.

The package allows TIM customers in Germany to make calls and use data services such as SMS for written messages and MSS for photos and images.

The service can be activated by prepaid customers with a minimum of 50 reais (US$21.5) credit, the statement said.

TIM would not disclose its targets in terms of numbers of clients.

On average around 80% of Brazil's mobile market is prepaid subscribers. TIM Brasil has some 21 million subscribers.

Make use of T-M's UMA/wifi free calling from any place in the world with access to wifi. I use an LG G6, wife an S7)
A/o Oct 20, 2013 no need for intl prepaid as T-Mobile U.S. includes voice roaming at 20¢/min (in and out)., unlimited text (in and out), and unlimited data in 140+ countries.

My Plan -[6 lines] U.S. T-Mobile unlimited minutes (incoming and outgoing), unlimited text, fast data on each line. that $145/mo. total! . (In U.S. no surcharge for calling a cell.) If a line exceeds 2G of data in a month, pay $10 more for that line. [That only happens a couple times/year.

It's just the opening of a prepaid roaming for TIM Brazil's customers, in just 9 countries, I'd really not consider it an international card...
