Is A1 the best network? Vecotone seems like an MVNO?

Are the SIMs widely sold at retail, including Vienna airport?

Is activation of the data plans immediate?

Default Austria SIM cards - 31-12-2013, 09:31

A1 has very good coverage, especially in Ski areas
A1's coverage is better than others
In Wien a will have the same good coverage

There is no possibility to buy SIM cards at airport
But you can go to mediamarkt or Saturn or some tank stations sell vectone

Vectone is a MVNO of a1 so the coverage is the same

3.60€ costs 1GB bundle
9.99€ costs 5GB bundle

There are also other combi (calls/Internet) plans available

You can buy SIM card on ebay.com

You can buy empty SIM card and Topup by yourself or 10€
SIM card and just activate data package

(Activation is one SMS should be sent)

A1 has their own stores in larger towns and cities. They also sell through dealers. The Austrian post office is one of those dealers so you can get SIMs and credits almost anywhere.

A1's website has a convenient "Shops & Händler" (shops and dealers) page where you can search for the nearest retail outlet. It shows there's a dealer at VIE,

EGR sales and Handelsges.mbH
Obj.115, check-in 3, Ebene 0/014-015, 1300 Wien-Flughafen
Phone: +431700739591
You'll find many others all over Vienna.

A1 shops and independent phone shop dealers will generally be happy to assist you with activating your account and configuring your SIM. (I don't know if the post office clerks will do that.)

Phones: OnePlus 5 • Nexus 5
SIMs: CA Fido/Fongo • AT A1-B.free • Google Fi
R.I.P.: UM • UM+
