Default Travelling to Napoli for a month... - 25-06-2013, 21:00

Hi there I'm brand new to the forum but was wondering if I could have some help. I will be travelling to Napoli more specifically a small town near Nola and also driving down to Calabria and another small town near Soverato. I want to bring MacPro laptop and my iPad for surfing the web, looking at emails and using Skype and Facetime. I have read numerous posts all over the web searching for the best answer but I thought it would be best to register here and ask directly. 2 years ago while in Soverato I went to a local shop who sold me a sim card with unlimited use and I was barely able to use my iPad for anything, it cost me about 39 euro. I was thinking to buy a USB modem for the laptop but would I be able to get WIFI to my iPad?

Anyway looking for my best options. Thanks in advance.

You should buy a mifi device. I have the WebPocket by Huawei and it works great.
Then you can buy an Italian sim-card once you are in Italy and activate one of the many data options. But first check the coverage because southern Italy and most of all some remote areas could be not very well covered, expecially with 3G. Probably TIM should be the best solution.

Thank you so much for replying! Do you recommend me buying a mifi device here in Canada or should I buy one on Italy? If I buy one here in Canada do you know where you purchased your device? If I buy one here is it simple to set up once buying a sim card in Italy? Thanks again for your quick response and thank you again in advance for any further information.

Sorry I've looked up your Mifi device, which model do you have?

I have the WebPocket by Huawei, but I got it with a business postpaid contract with 3.
You can buy it anywhere, it's important to check 2 things:
- it must be unlocked (to be used with any network)
- it must work on the European frequencies (WCDMA 900/2100, GSM 900/1800).
