Default Cycling in Tuscany - 18-05-2011, 23:50

Hi. I will be taking a cycling tour of Tuscany starting next week. The 7-day trip will start in Florence and will be heading south toward these cities/towns: Castellina in Chianti, San Gimignano, Siena, Montalcino and Montelpulciano. I will be taking my unlocked iPhone 4 with me. I think i will be doing very few voice calls. What i would like is data connectivity. It appears TIM is one operator recommended by several on this forum and even though it does not have UMTS coverage in Castellina in Chianti, where i will be spending two nights, i think it still has better overall coverage than WIND or 3.

I am deciding between the 9 euro/month INTERNET 1GB per Tablet plan or the 2 euro/week TIMxSMARTPHONE. The only concern i have with the TIMxSMARTPHONE plan is the 250MB limit per week.

I am just wondering if this is possible:
If by the third day of the week i have almost reached the 250MB limit. Can i deactivate the existing TIMxSMARTPHONE plan and then pay another 2 euro to activate a new TIMxSMARTPHONE plan?

Thanks!

No, you can do it with Wind but not with TIM, as far as I know. TIMxSMARTPHONE is NOT a good solution.
I'd go for the more expensive Internet Senza Limiti or go with COOP VOCE, which uses TIM network and it's much cheaper.

Anyway in Castellina in chianti it seems Wind has some 3G/HSPA coverage, while officially TIM doesn't. You could go with Wind, I think it could have quite good coverage in that area. Anyway consider that TIM has EDGE everywhere, so if you don't have 3G it's still not that bad.

Default Thanks Effendi! - 19-05-2011, 07:53

I forgot to mention, that the last two nights of the trip will be spent in San Quirico D'Orcia where Wind has only GPRS coverage (if i am correct, this is slower than EDGE). TIM has UMTS coverage in San Quirico D'Orcia. If i do go with TIM, i may pick the PRO INTERNET1GB plan.

From what i have been reading, it appears TIM offers prepaid micro-SIM. Do you know if Wind or coop voce offers micro-SIM? If they do, then i won't bring my micro-SIM cutter.

Thanks!
