O2 Czech should offer any day now new service. They will assign you virtual number on your current SIM roaming on O2 network. The cost is CZK 300 for month and includes CZK 300 of airtime. Here are the advantages: Calls to local O2 and fixed lines for free. You pay just for T Mobile and Vodafone calls and calls to foreign destinations. Only condition your SIM must be from operator which have roaming agreement with O2 Czech.

That's very nice, pity that the rates to T-mob, Vodafone and foreign numbers are really too high...

Will the virtual number be allocated from their mobile series, and will the free calls to O2 also include calls to other such users?

I checked a minute ago. They took it off the web site. I have it still as downloaded file but it is too big to upload here. Look like they have still some problems with this service. From what I heard, it should start by September.

To KiwiSurfer: PM me with you email and I will send you the current info about it. Or use this link http://www.cz.o2.com/public_mob/39/2...08_2007_v1.pdf and take a look at page number 8.

To Andy: As far as I am informed the calls to virtual number will not be charged, but the call is immediately forwarded to your overseas number as incoming roaming call, subject to your provider roaming charges. But this may change.

Meir: Thanks for the new link.

It seems the new roaming product does not work with SMS messages, which I think is a shame. Perhaps they will add that feature later. It is a good idea though, I wonder if any other operators will pick up this idea and implement this.

James

I believe that someone have mentioned similar virtual number service when traveling in Indonesia. But no free calls on own network, just assigned local number on existing SIM card.
