Data SIM for short (1 week) visit

Hello!

I'm looking for a data-enabled (ideally, data-only) SIM for a short visit - one week or so. I don't need a voice plan, as I have my own voice SIM and the roaming charges are acceptable for the volume of calls I anticipate. I won't be returning any time soon, so most likely I'll discard the data SIM after I leave.

I'll be using several 3G and WiFi enabled devices, therefore the best usage scenario is the one in which I use the portable hotspot function of my Android phone to share the connection. Alternatively, I could use the tethering function of an IPhone, but only if the carrier enables it.

Could you recommend a carrier and a SIM-only package, ideally one that doesn't frown upon tethering?

I'll be purchasing the SIM directly from UK, after I arrive.

Look for 3 data SIMs on eBay or Amazon UK

A gigabyte for about £4.50, or 3 GB for about £13

Is there any local UK retailer that comes even close to the prices on Amazon or eBay? If I order online, the shipping charges bring the total up to the price quoted on 3 website (10,29 GBP and 20,49 GBP, respectively). I might just as well buy directly from a store right there in UK, but which one?

Then you might as well get a SIM from 3.

I think they'd post one free from the website to a UK address, or get one from their shops, and then I don't think they accept foreign debit and credit cards but you can top up using a voucher bought in a shop
