I have friends who are traveling to Turkey in a couple of weeks and they asked me to locate Turkish sim cards for them before they go.

I've checked out eBay and other sites and have found no trace. The only place I can find them is on American sites that are wanting $50 per card (thanks but no thanks).

Anyone got any idea how much the starter packs are in Turkey? Or can anyone recommend some sites for me to try?

Thanks in advance!

They cost around $20. Just go to any shopping area once you arrive. There are several prepaid offers. If it's an official store, bring your passport and the address of your friends/hotel.

One more thing, as Telsim is now owned by Vodafone, it is likely to get some of the Voda benefits in the near future (ie, being able to recharge it with a Vodafone Greece voucher), so if your friends are planning to go back several times, this might be worth thinking about.

I was thinking exactly the same thing... just a shame Vodafone haven't extended the passport service to Turkey yet. Then a local sim wouldn't be needed.
