Your thoughts or advice?

I seem to have LOST both my Riiing and Malta Vodafon SIM cards in the Munich airport. C'est la vie as the French say. I was NOT feeling well and my son wanted to swap out the Malta Vodafon for a German SIM. I put the two cards in a tiny plastic bag and I THOUGHT I put it inside my briefcase, but I must have missed and in landed in my lap or on the floor instead.

I am not too worried about the lost Malta card, although I would have liked to sell -- try to sell -- that.

I called the UM hotline and they have de-activated my SIM # so nobody else can use up the balance. IF I buy a new UM card, they SAY they they will transfer my remaining balance (> 29 Euros) to the new card. I do not know how long the offer will last; I lost the cards on Aug 6.

Any word on UM phone #s BESIDES +423?

After this trip, I am fairly sure I will not be travelling abroad until 2008.

Normally I don't travel overseas for work.

My wife may travel to Germany, but I have that covered; I doubt she will visit another country next year. My older son may travel to UK, but that is not definite at all.

I have in the past loaned out the SIM card and it has been lightly used.

THEREFORE, my need for such a SIM is NOT large at this time.

As stated, I would appreciate any advice.

Should I just FORGET IT and kiss my old balance good-bye and wait for further developments?

I am trying to sell the remaining Malta SIM and 2 D1 SIMs on Ebay. I did NOT buy any new SIMs while in Germany.

Ouch sorry to hear about that, Stan. I'm really sorry that meeting up didn't work out this time but it was exactly that time of year where my parents and youngest brother visit for the summer from California.

Hope you feel better and good luck back in the US,

Sometimes when you've given up on things like that, they turn up in a place you're sure you've looked five times. Stuck inside the front of a book in there, maybe?

If not, would they transfer the balance to another SIM (not a new one), that you could arrange on here? - pretty unlikely I suppose, but they don't necessarily know you don't have two

Thanks, Andy.

Actually, I am bidding on a used SIM right now. Better pay $20 than $50 for a new one. I looked thoroughly, but miracles do happen.

Got a new (used?) Riiing card off Ebay Germany and UM transferred my 29 Euro balance on the lost card to the new card. Have not verified that yet on the phone, but their help desk responded to my email request.

Sold the Malta Go card on Ebay for a pittance. Took a big loss, considering I have have the card for 2 years and had to refill twice at 18 LM ($60). Overall, apart from the convenience and security of having an easy way to call my boys/family, the deal was a financial bust. Wife might want to return to Malta another time, but not next year. That would mean another $60, possibly twice that until she returns. NOT WORTH IT.

Sold one of the T-Mobile Germany cards for about what is is worth. Can't complain about my usage on that card. Had it for 3 years. Apart from the boys making international calls and daytime calls @ 79 ecents on it to run down the balance prematurely, I am pleased.

Will be trying to sell the other D1 card, too, along with some refills.

Next time I go or wife goes, we MAY be looking to update and buy one or more German cards. This time (August) I could not see purchasing another card just to "feed" it for a year or two.
