Default Orange Austria prepaid, how to recharge - 02-06-2012, 19:48

Hello,

I have a Orange Austria prepaid sim.

My location is USA, when I try to recharge at Orange Austria web site, my credit card will not work because it is from USA bank.

Does anyone know of a way I can recharge the sim, if I don't recharge soon I will loose the phone number.

Thanks!

Tried their site, put in my cc info and no work.

I always thought a visa card was a visa card. It seems that where it is issued is causing problem.

No. Many US online sites won't accept a Visa card issued by a Canadian bank. And sometimes at a gas station the credit card reader will ask for my 5-digit ZIP code even though it makes no sense in a Canadian address that uses 6-character (alphanumeric) Postal Codes.

Nevertheless, a site that sells airtime credits for a wide variety of carriers in several countries ought to accept cards from anywhere, especially when they use both CVV codes and Verified by Visa mechanisms to protect from fraudulent use. (VbV is a separate application that runs independently from the online merchant's web server and uses a separate password that's not stored on the card to authenticate the user.)

Unless someone else knows of a site that accepts overseas credit cards it looks like you'll have to get a new SIM with new phone number when you get to AT.

FWIW I do that routinely. Then, rather than mess with a new phone number every time, I just tell people who may need to reach me to send e-mail to my gmail address. I actually prefer that over phone calls and voice mail because it's more convenient to me.
