Default Vodafone redirecting images - 15-07-2007, 13:00

In Italy...I'm using a vodafone internet card with vodafone mobile connect v. 9 software. IE 7.0 and Windows Vista.

It seems that Vodafone is caching images and displaying them from their server (perhaps to speed things up or lessen server loads?) As a result, for example, the URL of the logo at the top of this page is http://www.prepaidgsm.nett/forum/ima.../misc/logo.gif
but on my system it is:
http://83.224.70.2/www.prepaidgsm.ne.../misc/logo.gif
(you can see that either by right clicking the graphic, and select "properties" or by viewing the page source code.

Note two things: the server address is 83.224.70.2 and an extra "T" has been added to net, in prepaidgsm.nett
If I do this with a .com page, it becomes .comm
That helps prevent the original source image from being displayed.
Can any of you confirm this is happening to you too? What about in other vodafone countries?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. It's quite annoying. I also wonder if it slows things down instead of speeding it up.
In addition, does this mean Vodafone can keep records/statistics on what images we view?

btw, the IP address is assigned to Vodafone:
inetnum: 83.224.0.0 - 83.224.83.255
netname: VODAFONE-IT

Usually there is a way to enable/disable this feature. The intention is to send the images and also the html in a compressed format to save transmission cost. On T-Mobile there is a website opening after each connect that asks you if you want to start a compressed or uncompressed session.

Vodafone IT, Windows Vista, IE7... you really want to have problems!

Anyway, I think it's like dg7feq says, but I never used Voda IT and so I cannot know if there's a way to deactivate this option...

It's fun living on the edge... Actually, Vista isn't that bad if you start with a fresh machine.

There is a setting in the voda software to use a VPN. I seem to recall a proxy setting, but I can't find in today.

At least the Voda gives me a half decent GPRS here in an old stone building in the old part of town; I get almost no signal on my Wind voice phone, I have to walk to the piazza and stand on the church steps. "Eco-terrorists" blew up a Wind antenna over a year ago, service has been weak ever since.

Sono piu o meno mezzo strada fra Effendi and Andrea... in Versilia.

OT, but Wind sent me an SMS about a 3000euro max bonus for domestic calls, to dial 158 before the end of the month. I'll have to find out what that's about, and whether there is a catch to it.

I'm in Sarzana, about 20Km from Versilia, we are very close!

I know about the eco-terrorists, but it was years ago, I hoped Wind had a new tower... but it seems not!

You could have 3G network on 3 probably, the Naviga3 is indeed a good offer. If you need any help let me know, maybe we can also meet for a beer!

I have a 6:30 a.m. flight out of PSA Friday morning, so it will have to be pretty soon.

But I'll be back in a couple months (I tend to avoid Italia during ferragosto).
