Yes,
Japan and Korea's domestic standards are different from one another. Korea is essentially an 800mhz CDMA country -- some Verizon handsets work. WCDMA is new for both countries and represent Japan and Korea's attempt to interconnect with the rest of the World. |

North America isn't using 2100 MHz for W-CDMA because it's already been deployed for other purposes.
I don't think there is any giant conspiracy about it. If it were available, it would be a no-brainer to use it for this. Hardware: Too much but notably iPhone 5, iPad Mini Retina LTE, Moto G LTE (N.A. version), iPhone 4. All unlocked. |

Ok, but maybe it would have been smarter to talk about it BEFORE, with European and Asiatic "friends" and decide to use a unique frequency. And also deciding to use 2, why the Americans cannot use just 1 for their 2 operators? It's nonsense that AT&T uses 1900 and T-Mob 1700.

...mike A/o Oct 20, 2013 no need for intl prepaid as T-Mobile U.S. includes voice roaming at 20¢/min (in and out)., unlimited text (in and out), and unlimited data in 140+ countries. My Plan -[6 lines] U.S. T-Mobile unlimited minutes (incoming and outgoing), unlimited text, fast data on each line. that $145/mo. total! . (In U.S. no surcharge for calling a cell.) If a line exceeds 2G of data in a month, pay $10 more for that line. [That only happens a couple times/year. |

In the next few years we'll also see 700MHz devices out there as Canada and the US are starting to auction this spectrum off.
