Default little trip-report italy with 3 (TRE) - 27-10-2008, 09:34

Hi,
i am just back from my rome/toscana trip in italy.

i got a prepaid tre (3) simcard from ebay, reloaded it online by paypal and activated the internetoption (50mb/day for 9 Euro/Month) online.

When we arrived in rome, everything worked perfect. i could go online, could use skype (with fring) on my N95 and could also do outgoing skypecalls via UMTS.

the network of 3 seems to be very good, i only could see it one time that it roamed on tim.

Speed was mostly better than when i used to hotel-wifi!

I can recomend the 3 UMTS Service in italy.

Wolf.

i was in rome and then autostrada to sienna and sienna to florence. we have been one week in the toscana between pisa and florence and i only had one time no 3 reception and than the phone automatically switched to tim.

but if you look at the 3 website for the coverage maps, of couse they have not 100% coverage, but i would say 80% coverage of population.

I guess it switched to TIM many more times, while you were moving around the Tuscan hills. That area is usually not so well covered by 3 (usually it's Wind the best operator there around). Even in Florence it happens to have no 3 coverage sometimes. But overall 3's coverage is not bad and surely they have the best 3G/HSPA network here around.
