Does anyone have experience? He would buy but I'm not sure!

My favorite sim and VoIP for roaming in Europe and worldwide:

UWT-mobile and Xxsim: for call+sms in Europa extern and Worldwide
ToggleMobile: for internet+call+sms only in EU intern
(VoIP/Sip) FriendCaller or SipCall.ch
: Worldwide sms+call

I've used it, very reliable, and sometimes the cheapest and easiest option, though less competitive in last year or so, with Piranha and now free roaming from T-Mob (at least for US residents).
Roamline is similar idea, has better rates in US and Europe.
At least post-paid, so I'm not stuck with lots of credit on legacy sim cards!

Abroadbad is terminating their service end of March, 2014, see website.
I'll order a roamline SIM. Mainly I need the data abroad for triggering Betamax calls to a local SIM when there are problems to enable data on that SIM.

not cheap, but for a few days in Russia, and other non-EU countries outside North America, it has been best option, rock solid reliable, cheaper than Roamline, truphone, etc.
