Default Best data allowance - worldwide - 24-11-2014, 14:09

Hello all,

This is my first time here, but after spending ages trying to found a solution to my problem I thought it could be a good solution to come and discuss it here.

Basically, I work for a TV channel, we use equipment that requires several SIM cards with DATA plans from different operators to transmit live video feed. Locally (France) we can get up to 100Mbps video streaming capabilities depending on the network quality but are generally satisfied with 1Mbps/4Mbps.

This equipment aggregates network links (3G/LTE modems) and encodes the camera video signal to VOIP. This information is not important for my request.

Today, even though I am in France we have a roaming unit that uses AT&T SIM cards. We move abroad all the time with this equipment. My issue is that we only have 800Mb/SIM/month for a crazy price. I generally need approx 2Go to 3Go/months/SIM.
We have no restrictions concerning the countries we are going to visit, it can be a European country or an african, asian, N/S american one.

This equipment, once abroad, offers the possibility to assign SIM cards to one local operator and other SIM cards to other local operator. This allow to take advantage of the b/w of several operators rather than being limited to only one.

I am looking for roaming offers that would allow me the maximum of Go for a good price in as many countries as possible. I have been looking for prices with french operators, this is what I get :

For 61/month/SIM = 3Go to use in Europe/Canada/USa
If I go to another country that is not part the ones listed above, this is what it costs :
0 to 20 Mo : 20 /SIM/Month
20 to 50 Mo : 50 /SIM/Month
50 to 100 Mo : 100 /SIM/Month
100 to 250 Mo : 225 /SIM/Month
250 to 500 Mo : 450 /SIM/Month
500 to 1024 Mo : 850 /SIM/Month
Above 1Go : 850 + 2 /Mo

Maybe I should work with a MVNO, or get international SIM cards but I can't figure out what is best...
If someone has a good understanding and good knowledge in this field, I would be very much interested.
Thanks.

You can also purchase THREE UK sim card they have deal 16 countries 25GB internet bundle for 15

Denmark - THREE Denmark
Hong-Kong - THREE HongKong
Indonesia - THREE Indonesia
Italy - THREE Italy and Wind Italy
Macau - THREE Macau
Ireland - THREE Ireland
Sri-Lanka - Mobitel and THREE Sri-Lanka
Sweden - THREE Sweden
France - Bouygues France and Free France

There is no one magic bullet. You will probably need two or 3 different SIM cards to approach maximum benefit. The amount of money saved might be enough to hire a person to keep track of everything---get an intern!

Seriously, this is the most significant and difficult data question I have seen.
I assume most of your non-european visits are spur of the moment and almost totally unpplanned. "The plane is leaving in 90 minutes. Get to the airport and on that plane!" type of thing. Each 'unit' probably will need to understand the SIM issue and have the ability to make a wise choice.

Another issue is that it really needs to work. This would be another reason to have more than one kind of SIM. Perhaps keeping the AT&T SIMs as a backup.

I would recommend calling the MVNOs and see of you can leverage you business needs. I know that Mobal claims that they work with some US TV networks for international roaming. I am absolutely sure that, if true, the networks are NOT paying the posted retail price... The worst that can happen is they say no...

If you can get a U.S. T-Mobile SIM (about $60/mo) you get free data roaming in 120 countries.
I might not work for you. Data speeds are capped at 110-113Kbps. Also, there is (supposedly) a 3 month limit and (supposedly) half the usage of the SIM has to be in U.S. You an use the data SIM that's in your tablet overseas like you can your your phone. I've used my phone in 9 countries, haven't taken tablet with me. No tethering allowed.

Make use of T-M's UMA/wifi free calling from any place in the world with access to wifi. I use an LG4, wife an S7)
A/o Oct 20, 2013 no need for intl prepaid as T-Mobile U.S. includes voice roaming at 20/min (in and out)., unlimited text (in and out), and unlimited EDGE data in 140+ countries.

My Plan -[6 lines] U.S. T-Mobile unlimited minutes (incoming and outgoing), unlimited text, 2G fast data on each line, unlimited "slow" data after that $120/mo. total! [plus $25 taxes] . (In U.S. no surcharge for calling a cell.)

People think that I'm a PR personality, but you have to look at Swiss Mobile. It has nothing to do with Swisscom, it is a small Swiss company and works together with Swiss International Airlines. You get the sim card online or on every Swiss aircraft.

The costs vary but are generally around 10 to 30 € cts/MB, except in Israel and Jordan, where they are much higher. The charm is that they count to the kB, so if you use little you pay little.

The OP is talking about 2 to 3 GB a month.

That's likely to mean mainly local SIMs, one per country, or any useful roaming at the same cost as at home, like 3 as already mentioned

Angry Poor feedback from Worldsim - 17-12-2014, 11:57

In July 2014 i paid full fare to get a Worldsim service with free of charge delivery. The package was not delivered as promised and an attempt to deliver it was made after we left the address for a long vacation. I have contacted the service provider and they asked me to pay for delivery and a new address and they will reship. Since this is no longer acceptable to me (I left my US address) I asked for a refund. I have not heard back from Worlsim since then. I found that this may be a window for me to voice out my dissatisfaction and frustration. Thanks.
