Yep. Lots of things have changed in Germany ... some for the better.

We've got rid of the "Störerhaftung", that was the legal pricinple they you were liable for illegal downloads on your WiFi hotspot even if you were able to prove that it wasn't you, but some stranger who was logged on.

This has law got turned upside down, and now somebody who is filing liability claims has to prove that it was indeed you which is much harder to do. So as a consequence many WiFis (or locally called WLAN) are opening up, much more public WiFi available and the log in procedures have been much simplified.

You will now find free WiFi in many buses, trains, stations, airports, entertainment venues, shopping malls, restaurants, bars, even some fashion chain stores and many private users keep theirs open as well.
