Keep in mind that iPhones do only work on AT&T's 3G network, as all other American 3G networks are either on frequency bands unsupported by the iPhone or use a completely different radio technology (CDMA). You will still have 2G-coverage on GSM networks (AT&T and T-Mobile), but bandwidth will be < 200 KBit/s.
