Tele2 Signs National Roaming Pact In Switzerland

STOCKHOLM -(Dow Jones)- Tele2, the Swedish telephony services company, said Monday it strengthens its mobile telephony offering in Switzerland with a national roaming agreement, with TDC owned Sunrise.

Tele2 currently operates a mobile city network in Zurich and plans to further build out its network in additional Swiss cities.

With the city networks and national roaming, Tele2 can provide attractive prices for mobile services across Switzerland, the company said.

Quite strange since Tele2 already worked as a MVNO on Swisscom network, then bought a new GSM license and operates at 1800MHz in Zuerich (I saw the network last week there) and now signs a roaming agreement with Sunrise to extend its Zuerich offers to the rest of the country! Quite a weird and complicated situation...

not quite as weird as BT splitting off O2, then signing UK mvno deals with T-mobile then Vodafone

This is neither weird nor complicated. Tele2 searched for a partner to launch their long awaited offer "mobile calls for fixed line charges" but couln't get any partner for a low price. This has been before the whole MVNO thing reached Switzerland.

So they started their idea with a own "City Net" in Zurich, offering extremly low prices. Since they had no partner for roaming outside their own City Net, they decided to go the "international" way.

Half a year later, they now found a partner for roaming the rest of Switzerland but they said, they will expand their own network further. Sunrise (TDC) will also let them roam on their GPRS / UMTS / EDGE Data-Network - but no offer available right now.

Fact is, that Tele2 cancelled their old offer on internet - there are no longer any "City Net" offers nor the old Swisscom-Rebranded Prepay offer any more. I just placed a order for their new offer which is:

No activation fee
No montly line rental
No initial payment

0,- Swiss Francs to get a SIM-Card which is postpaid. CHF 0,39 to all networks in Switzerland, CHF 0,10 (almost 7 Euro Cent) for calls to European Countrys Fixed Net and a surcharge of CHF 0,40 to foreign mobile networks (CHF 0,50 per minute)

Incoming calls while roaming seems to be like GT-Sim, they charge from CHF 0,60 - but active calls while roaming are quite cheap as well.

Have a look at www.tele2-mobile.ch

Very interesting, Bourbonkiller... but THIS offer isn't still active?

Not shure what happens when following your link (it will not load any page in my Firefox). Fact is, that on the german languaged pages, all "old" offers are gone.

But you can still "google" for Tele 2 City Net and will find URL's which will also work, but they are not linked to the site which is on now. As well, the serviceline told me yesterday, that the old tariff is no longer valid.

Keep you up to date when the SIM is arriving.

This is the German page and works perfectly. It's the page about the MVNO on Swisscom. But it's true, it's not linked anymore from Tele2's main site, it just shows the page you told us, which is in German only.

So it seems that Tele2 has no prepaid offers anymore, by now.

Keep us informed! :)

Sorry, last night the Link didn't work. Yes, I agree, this is the old "prepaid" homepage.

Will keep you informed about upcoming news.....
