3G prepaid PAYG internet experience in Morocco
Hi
Here's a bit about 3G prepaid PAYG internet access in Morocco in 2010 with Maroc Telecom 3G PAYG prepay internet in Morocco So far pretty reasonable experience, with a few quirks here and there. Competitors are private firms Meditel and Inwi. Morocco made the jump from "no data with little gprs" to 3G - 3,5G without EDGE in between. Cheers! |
Now updated how to recharge with Maroc Telecom 3G menara data simcard.
Meditel as well as INWI do not sell 3G simcards, only 3G USB dongles / sticks locked to their network. |

After nearly 3 months in Morocco, I can recommend Maroc Telecom's 3G prepaid Menara card.
€ 18,- / month for unlimited 3G access with reasonable performance and coverage. The network is a bit overbooked so it gets slow at peak hours - but overall it's price and performance is worth it. The new INWI (former WANA) is trying to get a piece of the action also selling EVDO based USB modems. (no simcard required) A somewhat alien standard in a dominated UMTS/HSPA region since it can not be re-used in nearby Europe. For US travelers INWI might be an option - though coverage is limited to the bigger cities. Read all about the competition of Maroc Telecom here: 3G prepaid EVDO and HSPA in Morocco Cheers! |
I will try it next time!
In the mean time I do not recommend Méditel for prepaid internet in Morocco. I was not able to activate the data service after visiting 3 different Méditel branches in Tanger (and each branch tried to activate it in a different way). I was told that my phone wasn't supported. |
