Roaming in Moldova and PMR

Does anyone has any real experience roaming in Moldova using any of major international free-roaming SIM. Particularly, I am interested in roaming in breakaway Pridnestrovije. Likely to be in Tiraspol and Bendery. I know it would work with local provided who is using CDMA, but I believe in should pick up signal from Moldovan operators anyway.

I have been to Moldova many times. I know of no international that works in Moldova. I have never heard of any CDMA carrier there. I know that Hop does work there. That is why I have a local sim card there.

IDC operates a CDMA 450/800 1x-EvDO network along the western border with Ukraine.

As for international SIM cards, United Mobile claims coverage with both products (+44 and +423). GSM coverage seems to be quite good in the Tiraspol area.

Yep the coverage map of Orange Moldova says its well covered, but who knows if its true. IDC link http://www.idknet.com/mobile/ in Russian only

There's no Vodafone in Moldova, I guess you meant Orange ;)
I think both Orange and Moldcell cover Tiraspol' and you should have no big problems with a local sim-card, or also with UM or Travelsim (which roams on both the operators).

Of course I meant Orange. Sorry for my mistake. I have corrected it already.

MaxRoam and CelTrek cover Moldova. CelTrek's rates are 29¢ incoming, 42¢ outgoing to U.S.

...mike

For those who are interested:
Moldcell and Orange have both coverage in Bendery and Tiraspol. But Moldcell much better one. You cant dial PMR numbers from Moldova GSM number.

Well, we are 'border line' between Moldova and ... Transnistria :D I suppose that Orange had some troubles in Tiraspol...

Hello,

isn't PMR jamming Moldavian GSM-signals? I heard that even in Chişinău, GSM connections are quite interfered by Transnistrian jammers. Prepaid-Users in Chişinău got free load from their operators, because calls/connections are cut frequently because of jamming from Transnistria. But indeed very interesting, that Moldavian GSM signals still reach Tiraspol (and that they are not jammed there).

Regards,
Klaus
