prepaid 3G microSIM--question about iPhone usage

Hi there, can anyone explain to me why on the Giffgaff site it is specifically stated that their SIM cards for data can't be used on iPhone?

Also, what options would I have for tetherable data on the iPhone?

Going to be in London for a week at the beginning of February.
