Email-to-SMS Gateway TIM Italy
 

I've tried n@timnet.it and 0n@timnet.it, but messages don't get delivered. Any help would be Welcome.

I'm sorry but I have no idea, no one uses this service in Italy and I don't even know if it's possible to use it at all. Where did you find those addresses?

The US gateways do work. That is how I send SMS to myself when I get voicemail. Maybe Tim no longer offers the service.

I remember that in former times it was possible to activate the email to SMS service in all german networks.
But there is was a problem: The phone companies got the "wonderful" idea of charging for incoming email-to-SMS-messages, so I really do know nobody, who ever did it.
Please remember: Incoming SMS in Europe (and most parts of the world) are for free even while roaming.
So there is no advantage for the email-to-SMS service at all.

Yes, but since that service doesn't work most of the time and in most of the countries it's better to use other services, such as MobiSMS, for example. And BTW 13 cents for an SMS in roaming is not that terrible... ;)

agreed, but AT&T charges $.50 each for my family to reach me when i'm overseas and that adds up quickly. but thanks for pointing me to MobiSMS.

actually, doesn't mobile skype (chat only) or mobile yahoo IM use UMTS and is therefore "free" for data plan users, or do they go over SMS?

If you have "free" data roaming you'll pay nothing since they use a normal data connestion, not SMS.

There may be no advantage for the phone company to offer the service, but it would certainly be useful for the user. It would allow friends at home to contact the traveler without incurring any charges. This might be simply to send a short message or to set up a convenient time for a call that could be made via wifi or less expensive land lines. This would be particularly useful for US travelers to Europe, where the time difference often makes calling difficult.

I guess the US companies offer the service because they can earn revenue from it. If the European companies started charging for the incoming messages, I can understand why people stopped using the service.

timnet.com has no MX record, so no email
 

A simple query for timnet.com MX (email) records shows:

So, any email sent to domain 'timnet.com' simply cannot be delivered to TIM, let alone its clients. That's the definitive answer. Sorry! Cheers,
