I hope it's reasonably clear that this forum is mostly a group of interested amateurs, without continuous professional attendance.

The way things are set up here, new users' posts containing links are pre-moderated. This stops most spam ever being published (though we don't suffer much), but it does mean keeping an eye out for genuine posts.

Big Nige could have answered his own question by now, as the post referred to was approved on the same day (and in fact before any of us read this thread).

I started a thread, but when I tried to reply to someone's reply, I got a message that my reply would have to be approved by a moderator. I've never seen this on a board before.

After I got a reply (with very helpful information), it would have been nice to reply quickly.

It seems odd that I can create threads without moderation, but can't reply without approval from a moderator. Is this normal behavior? How long will it last?

I've merged your query with this thread, which partly explains the issues. I don't know how long it lasts, or whether by time or post count.

But according to the log on a certain thread, apparently your other post was approved about an hour before you asked these questions

Yes, the issue is including links and it should only happen at your first post.
I'm sorry, I don't like pre-moderation, but we had to use this plugin in order to stop spam. Lately things are getting better, but in the past we had several new spam threads every day.
