Default Do you like the phpBB2 forum or should we move to vBulletin? - 14-12-2006, 13:13

Some time has passed since we moved to the new server and bulletin board.
The server now works very well and I'm totally satisfied with it.

Talking about the bb I'm not so happy like at the first moment... the skin we have is very nice, but phpBB2 is not as secure as other boards, we're still full of spammers and bots and it's quite little configurable from the moderation point of view.
I'm running vBulletin on another site and I'm quite used to it as an user as well. It's the best board around in my opinion. It's not free, but that's not a problem thanks to Adsense.
So my vote goes to move to vBulletin, but I'd like to read the opinion of our most faithfull users before deciding.... Anyway I'm a dictator so I'll decide by myself anyway!

What is better about security and spam protection in vBulletin?

Well, I'm not an expert, but from what I read it should be better. Surely the one I run never had any problems with spam like we have here (now and before), but that could be just a lucky case...

I don't feel qualified to judge, as I don't have technical knowledge about how they work.

I suppose I'd like vBulletin as well, but perhaps for no better reason than because it's the one I see most elsewhere

I had a quick look at their licence charges, and I'm just wondering what proportion are of each kind ...

My 2 cents.

VBullettin is the best solution for PrePaidGSM.net inside our "big family", so we can have the same platform for Mondo3.com and PPGSM.net. A great 'alliance'

I don't know enough about the subject to give a valid response. I do like the ability on some BBS systems to see the most recent subject in a sub-menu at the higher level menu. The current system does not seem to do that.

Agree totally with DRN.

Is there somewhere we can SEE what VBulletin looks like?

I did not vote yet.

The very well known http://www.howardforums.com/ uses vBulletin.

Anyway the "last news" at the top is some modification which can be made in almost all bulletin boards, I think it shouldn't be a problem either on phpBB2 or on vBulletin.

One other aspect of the system used by HoFo is that there is a WAP interface. I'm not sure how that works but it is a nice feature.
