There's a press release that United Mobile is ordering some fancy switching equipment from Blueslice Networks in Montreal: Click for new equipment press release

Here's a link for the piece of hardware they are ordering:

I wonder what features we will get with the hardware upgrade? More carriers to roam on, better network reliability, data or multimedia capabilities? Or is this just to handle more subscribers on their switching equipment?

I was talking with UM today for quite some time.
They use the new hardware to expand their connectivity to mobile providers.
This will enable them to offer SIM-cards with UK (i dont know with which provider) and german Numbers (cooperation with e-plus) by the end of this year.

They did not happen to say if they would offer exchanges or upgrades to existing users with their semi-bozo Liechtenstein #s, did they?

Thanks,

Stan

Erm, i didnt ask that but i wrote it down for our next meeting (approx. Mid-June). I'll keep you updated. As far as i understood by now you can choose which country prefix you want if you order cards in the future.
