Hi all, new here.

I'm fairly new to this roaming sim lark, but am going to be spending a lot of time in the US over the next year so have been looking to save on my phone bills.

I've ordered a dual imsi sim card from Camel Wireless, the rates sounds fantastic.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them?

If you are going to spend a lot of time here - you should get a MetroPCS phone. They are only prepaid. Unlimited calling in U.S. - $40. Cheap overseas calls. They operate on CDMA - so you'd need to buy a phone - under $80.
Downside is they don't blanket the country. They cover most large metro areas and cover much of California and Florida. They recently started in NYC area.
The nationwide carriers (Verizon and Sprint which are CDMA -- and T-Mobile and ATT, which are GSM) all have prepaid plans). Using an intl. card in a country where you will use the phone a lot does not make sense.

I assume you know that the U.S. makes no distinction between calling landlines or cell phones. That means that callers here don't pay any more to call a cell than a landline. That also means your friends/family can call you for a couple pence a minute, or even free on some services.
Using a cell here is much cheaper than the rest of the world.

Thanks for your response. The reason I went for the Camel Wireless dual imsi card is because I want my friends, family and colleagues to be able to contact me cheaply. Since their sim card has a UK and US number they can call my UK number and I can receive it in the US for free, that's what really drew me to the deal. If I were to get a US sim card then this would not be possible.

I'm going to be going back and forth a lot and want people in both countries to be able to contact me no matter which country I'm in. If I kept swapping sims this would be a problem.

Camel Wireless' rates are just 20p (~30c) back to the UK and free to receive calls (which I believe is cheaper than a standard US sim) when called on the UK number.

Since I'm going to be travelling all over the US on business, coverage is really important, which I guess rules out the MetroPCS phone. Camel wireless say they operate on AT&T and T-Mobile, which is surely impossible to beat...?

That's strange.

There have been no commercial rates released for the dual sim, And the rates for the USA side have not been finalised.

Be careful about the UK number part. The number is probably Jersey or the IOM. These calls are often not charged as regular mobile to mobile calls on most plans. I did a little experiment with a UM Mobile (+44 - Jersey) SIM before they started charging a connection charge and asked friends in the UK to see how they were billed. 02 subscribers were not charged (it was treated as a standard mobile call), but 3, T-Mobile, and Orange did surcharge the call.

Just some skepticism...UM has been promising a dual UK/USA sim is coming (of course so is Xmas)

Easy roam and others of the same type (Geosim?) have been saying a dual UK?USA sim is coming (so is New Year's Day)

They say pre order now for May delivery...I'll believeit when I see it.

Calls to Manx 07624 and 07924 are fully inclusive in orange uk free call allowance

Only Vodafone, T-mobile and 3 Network charge for calling our numbers.

As for the dual USA - UK sim card. This is happening and is currently in beta test. Release date is going to be may/June 2009. There is a slight delay due to the complex integration of calls from the usa number to the uk network. The number re-route will be done via handset. In the sim services option.

Apart from that. All systems go!

It is only Camel wireless who are pre-selling this sim card. They are a new reseller and its just a marketing ploy to generate sales. I think john should have more common sense.

Any sensible customer would wait until the service is live.

United Mobile's Dual sim will never happen, It seems they have some problems. So don't be waiting for there dual sim!

Sir in all due respect to you, how do you know your company is so much smarter than UM? (And no, I'm not a UM employee or apologist or anything like that)....what evidence do you have to say UM will never have a UK/US sim while you guys will.......
