I am trying to sign up for a free internet service in Germany that for sign up purposes wants to check my IP address to see if it is consistent with a German ISP. I was wondering if someone in Germany would be willing to help me out with the signup.

Thanks.

I would advice you to use www.anonymouse.org

Good idea, but it blocks browers where cookies are blocked. I suppose I can do the old proxy trick, but need a refresher on that trick. I did it three years ago for a UK site.

solved that problem, but the numbers they were handing out were Germany, 01801 (zum Ortstarif) numbers. I presume that this is like a UK 0845 number and not doing any favors handing it out.

Calls to 01801 numbers are quite expensive.

Using a VPN and/or proxy would not help you, as Sipgate started running postal address verifications as part of their DID activation process.

That is correct...calls to 01801/3/5 numbers normally cost between 9 and 12 cents per minute.

My understanding is that they run some sort of basic credit check to verify residency.

I had a friend in Germany setup the account under his name and didn't have any problems to have the geographic DID routed to my Asterisk server in Canada.
