Default Activating new telcel Mexico prepaid SIM - 13-07-2011, 06:30

Hi,

I got from ebay a new telcel prepaid SIM.
I would like to know how to activate it out of Mexico.
I just want to check it (and even topup it online) and make it ready before I come to Mexico.

Thanks
Assaf

I don't think you can activate it outside of Mexico. Somebody from Telcel will need to see your passport to register you.

GSM: CA: SaskTel (postpaid voice/data,,postpaid data), Rogers (postpaid data); UK: Orange, 3; CH: Swisscom; AT: tele.ring; US: T-Mobile, AT&T, Red Pocket Mobile, Telestial Simple Calling; EE: AirBalticcard

CDMA: US: PagePlus

Hardware: iPhone 4, iPhone 3G, Nokia E63, Nokia Nuron, Novatel Ovation MC950D & MC998D data sticks, Huawei UG1691 data stick (3G AWS), Motorola RAZR V3, Sony-Ericsson K610i, Sony-Ericsson Z310i, Otech F1 (quad sim) (all unlocked)

I too don't think you can activate it outside of Mexico. I tried to activate one in Brownsville Texas just across the river in a TelCel signal but the language barrier prevented me from completion. I ended up having a girl in a TelCel shop in Matamoros do it for me.

One of the oddities of Mexican roaming is that unless you are going to stay in one region of Mexico, it is cheaper to use an ATT prepaid GoPhone SIM in Mexico:
