The Finnish mobile phone operator named Sonera gave us the following information:
In Finland works mobile phone which uses GSM900/GSM1800 frequency (phone which uses only GSM1800 frequency is not recommendable).
If you buy a phone which uses GSM900/GSM1900 or GSM900/1800/1900 frequencies you can use the phone also in Usa. You can ask
different mobile phones from your local store.
Sonera offers a prepaid mobile service called Sonera Easy. Easy card works with all gsm-phones sold in Finland. The start package costs 17,90 EUR including calls for 11 EUR.
Easy subscription makes the basic services of Sonera´s mobile phone customers immediately available: you can start calling and receiving calls without delay. Your mobile phone number is activated by the first outgoing or received call or text message, and will be valid for 12 months.
Each loading prolongs the validity of Sonera Easy by 12 months. You should load your account from the Recharging card before the expiry of the 12-month term.
When you are a Sonera Easy customer, you can make domestic calls to all normal priced fixed network and mobile numbers, emergency numbers and directory enquiry numbers 118, 020202 and 020203. The call charge is the charge given on the valid price list + Easy´s mobile phone charge 0,16 EUR/min.
Sonera Easy does not work abroad but you can make international calls starting with Sonera's international prefix 990. The call charge is is the international call charge + Easy's mobile phone charge 0,16 EUR/min. You will find the 990-prices here.
You can also send text messages to foreign mobile subscriptions if the recipient's operator is Sonera's roaming-partner.
Easy also includes VoiceMail. VoiceMail answers your calls if you do not reply within 30 seconds and if your phone is switched off, or if you are not within the coverage area. Listening to VoiceMail costs 0,16 EUR/min.
You can check the current balance of your account by calling the toll-free service number 0800 172222. Before the balance is exhausted, buy a Easy Recharging Card sold by Sonera Easy resellers at a price of 20 EUR. When you have purchased a Recharging Card, call the toll-free service number 0800 172222 and dial the number series found on the Recharging Card. You can start using the balance immediately.
If the balance has run out, you can still call our toll-free service number and emergency numbers free of charge. The validity of the card expires 12 months after the first outgoing/received call or text message, if you do not load more talk time.
You can easily purchase Easy packages at Sonera dealers or at R-Kioski dealers in Finland."
